A BUDGENS store which applied to sell alcohol 24/7 has now changed its application to close at midnight following objections from residents.

The shop in Field End Road, Eastcote, applied to extend their licence because of fears Tesco Express would take all their business when they open next Spring at the old Woolworths site.

A COMMUNITY association managed to raise £1,500 for charity at an annual bazaar.

Eastcote Community Association held the bazaar at their centre in Southbourne Gardens, Eastcote, on Saturday (22).

The money raised will go towards Mount Vernon Hospital's new cancer research centre, in Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

POLICE are investigating an incident which led to a 37-year-old man being rushed to hospital with head injuries.

The man was taken to Northwick Park Hospital after the emergency services were called to the scene outside The Manor pub in Field End Road, Eastcote, just after midnight on Saturday morning.

Detective Sergeant Andy Dawson said: "This incident is being investigated. If anyone was in the area or has further information that could help us with our enquiries please call 020 8246 1472."

The injured man has since been released from hospital.

AN APPLICATION to build a house across three back gardens in an Eastcote road has been refused.

The proposed development to build a four-bedroom detached house on the land behind 63, 65 and 67 Lowlands Road was turned down at the North Planning Committee on Thursday.

However, the application has now gone to appeal because of non-determination.

This was the fifth application at the same site to be refused since 2002.

Eastcote fun day

CHILDREN'S rides and stalls will fill Eastcote high street to mark the start of the festive season at the annual fun day.

The entertainment will start at midday in Field End Road on November 29 and will go on until late in the evening.

There will also be displays in the shop windows and the Christmas lights will brighten up the street when they are turned on this week.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help keep the area clean and tidy by reporting problems to the council.

The Street Champions scheme is being relaunched in Ruislip, Eastcote and Northwood Hills to encourage people to sign up.

Street Champions are volunteers who act as the eyes and ears of Hillingdon Council by reporting problems including graffiti, abandoned cars, litter, and anti social behaviour.

The scheme is being relaunched at Winston Churchill Hall in Pinn Way, Ruislip, on Wednesday (26) from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

A FAMOUS writer and comedian is visiting a nursing home to open its Christmas bazaar.

Barry Cryer OBE, best known as one of the panellists on the BBC radio comedy programme I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, will open the bazaar at St Vincent's Nursing Home in Wiltshire Lane, Eastcote, on November 29.

It will start at 1pm and finish at about 4pm and there will be a Santa's Grotto as well as stalls, tombolas and raffles.

The money raised will help pay for the residents of the home to go on trips in their new mini bus which is arriving next week.

RAF Eastcote update

HALF of all the buildings planned in the south side of RAF Eastcote should be near completion by June next year.

The main drainage is all complete at the site - now called Pembroke Park - the tarmacing of the roads has started, and three show homes with a car park are due to be complete by January next year.

Progress is also being made at the north side of the development, near the central footpath to Eastcote Road.

The Great Crested Newts near Highgrove House should be relocated by the end of the month.

Drainage work is due to be finished by the end of January next year and roads should be completed by April when the new entrance on Eastcote Road will be in use for access to the site.

Eastcote Residents Association and the Ruislip, Northwood and Eastcote History Society, together with the developers and Hillingdon Council have now provisionally agreed the names of the roads and buildings at the site.

Christmas bazaar

A CHRISTMAS bazaar is being held in Eastcote.

Eastcote Community Association have organised the bazaar, which will be held at the community centre in Oak Hall, Southbourne Gardens, Eastcote, on Saturday (22) from 2pm.

Admission is 20p and there will be a range of attractions, including toys, a raffle, Father Christmas, cakes, a tombola, and flower arrangements.

All money raised will go towards Mount Vernon Hospital's new cancer research centre in Rickmansworth Road, Northwood.

AN EASTCOTE road was closed for an hour yesterday (Monday) because a lamp post was falling down.

Elm Avenue was closed between Oak Grove and The Uplands from 4.05pm after a member of the public called the emergency services to inform them about of the dangerous lamp post near Acacia Avenue.

The road reopened at 5.03pm after the lamp post was taken away by Hillingdon Council.
